Do I have to be a good photographer to join?

No, but by joining we think you will become a better photographer, whatever your current standard is. Our members are wide ranging in their photographic skills. Our weekly events are designed to help us all learn more about different aspects of photography. We have visits from external speakers who are experts in their field. We mentor each other, we have our Special Interest Groups (which focus on specific types of photography) and we have competitions both internally and with other local clubs. All helps us to improve our skills.

How much does it cost to be a member?

Our latest membership rates rates are on this page. It’s great value as we meet every week of the year, apart from a couple of weeks at Christmas and a two week break over the summer holiday period. We offer reduced rates for students, spouses and for people who are unwaged.

Can I come along to see if the club is for me?

We welcome you to come along for free to try the club, and see if it is going to be right for you. Have a look at the syllabus and pick a night that you are particularly interested in, or just come along to the next available evening. You can send us a message here for more information too, and one of our members will then look out for you and make sure you have an enjpyable evening with us.

Is there disabled access to the club?

Yes there is. We meet in the function room at the Fishpool Liberal Club and there is disabled access. If you need any help please let us know. Parking is available behind the club and right next to the entrance too.

Will I be able to learn new skills?

Definitely! We have a number of different ways we help each other to learn new skills. Throughout the year we invite guest speakers to come along and talk to us. Our own members also regularly present to us to share their knowledge. We hold regular competitions throughout the year which gives us a chance to get feedback from an experienced judge. We have access to the resources of the L&CPU, and we have our Special Interest Groups which specialise in different types of photography. All of it helps us to learn something new.

Where and when does the club meet?

We meet at Fishpool Liberal Club, 79 Nelson Street, BL9 9HX. There is a car park at the back of the club, off Woodley Street. We meet every Thursday evening from 7.45 until about 10pm. The function room has a bar so members usually arrive between 7.15 and 7.30 for a chat before the start of the evening’s event.
